Welcome Students!

Hello!

Starting university?

Whether you’re a new student or have been in Belfast for a while, we would love to get to know you!

We’ve loads of things coming up that we can’t wait to share with you.

For the latest news & updates, follow us on Facebook or Instagram @thehubbelfast or fill out the little form at the end of this page and someone from chaplaincy will be in touch!

What is The Hub Belfast?

The Hub is the nickname of the Church of Ireland & Methodist Chaplaincy Belfast.

We work across the city to serve and support students at Queen’s, Ulster, Stranmillis and Belfast Met.

Our HQ is on Elmwood Avenue in the Queen’s Quarter, home to our student accommodation, the Church of the Resurrection, and the legendary Hub Cafe. You’ll also find us at Belfast Cathedral, UU Chaplaincy, and St Stephen’s Parish, Millfield.

Our heart as a university chaplaincy is to serve and support students spiritually, pastorally and practically. Our mission is to go and make disciples on campuses in the city of Belfast through the worship of God, community with others and outreach to those around us.

How can I get in touch with The Hub?

It’s our great honour and privilege at the chaplaincy to support and serve staff and students throughout the city of Belfast. If you’re part of a college or university in Belfast and you’d like to learn more about faith, pray with someone, or even just chat to someone about how your day is going, we’d be delighted if you got in touch.

How can I get involved?

There’s always something happening at the Hub and we like to think that there’s something for everyone! Have a look below and see if there’s something that grabs your attention. If you’d like more information or would like to get involved in any of the following, just complete the short form at the bottom of the page.

The Hub Café – Every weekday, 10am-3pm

Pop in and enjoy our café on Elmwood Avenue! We have free wifi, a pool table, plenty of seats, good coffee, and a delicious selection of food. Every time you buy something from our café, it also supports the work of Abanna (providing for children in Africa) and the South Belfast Foodbank (offering much-needed provisions to people in crisis).

You can also volunteer for a ninety minute shift in the café and we’ll give you a free lunch to say thanks!

The Church of the Resurrection – Sundays, 9am / 11am

The Church of the Resurrection is a church family who meet every Sunday morning. We run two services – one at 09:00 and another at 11:00 so that we can make sure everyone gets a seat!

We gather to worship God together, to sing praise, to pray with and for one another, and to hear from God’s word. If you’re looking for a church in the Queen’s university area, we’d love you to come and visit us.

There are also opportunities to get involved in the life of the church if you do choose to make it your worshipping home. Each week different people will play and sing in our worship band, we’ll have different voices leading parts of the service and sharing with the church family, and we love to offer a warm welcome and hospitality to those who come along.

At our 11:00 service, there are also activities for teens and a creche area for families with younger children.

Young Adults Lunch – Some Sundays, 12:30pm

Some Sundays after church, we like to gather students and other young adults together for food and community! If you’d like to meet some other folks around your age and enjoy a bite of lunch together, we’d love you to get in touch and we can let you know what dates we’re planning for.

Toasties & Tunes at The Elms Treehouse – Tuesdays, 7pm

If you live in Queen’s Elms BT9 (or if you live in any QUB accommodation and don’t mind the walk), we’ll see you every Tuesday night at the Treehouse for a free toastie and some live music!

It’s such a joy for us to be able to serve QUB and to meet students from all over the world. We’d love you to stop by for a chat and some food.

We’re also always glad of some help at Toasties & Tunes so if you’d like to meet students, hang out with some great people, or play an acoustic set with us, get in touch!

Millfield Student Lunch – Tuesdays, 12pm-2pm

If you’re a student at Belfast Met’s Millfield campus, if you live in one of the city centre student accommodations, or if you just fancy a walk to a different part of the city, we’d love to see you at our weekly free lunch in the city centre!

We gather every week on a Tuesday afternoon at St. Stephen’s Church , right next to Belfast Met and just opposite Queen’s Elms BT1. Drop in for some food, fun, and conversation.

We’re also always on the lookout for some volunteers to help out with the lunch so if you’ve a heart for hospitality or would just love an opportunity to chat with students, let us know.

The Prayer Course – Wednesdays, 7pm

From Sept-Dec 2021, we’ll be exploring the Prayer Course together. It’s an eight week journey that seeks to help us to grow and deepen our prayer lives. We’ll be meeting every Wednesday night at The Hub to watch some videos, discuss them together in small groups, read the Bible with one another, and to take time to pray. If you’re curious about prayer, would like to learn more about talking with God, or you’re hoping to invest more in your own prayer life, we’d love you to come along!

Ladies Prayer – Third Wednesday Every Month, 8pm

Once a month, the Hub hosts an opportunity for women from across our community to gather together, enjoy one another’s company, worship God, and share in prayer together. If you’d like to meet with other women of all ages and stages, let us know and we’ll connect you.

Worship 101 – Thursdays, 10:30pm

For decades students have been gathering at the chaplaincy late in the evening to sing praise to God. This year is no different! We’re really excited to invite you all back to Worship 101 – our late-night worship at The Hub. We’d love you to join us at 10:30pm on a Thursday evening as we sing out our praises to our great God.

Gospel Lounge Community Choir – Some Thursdays, 8pm

If you love to sign and would like to be part of a community choir, we’re delighted to tell you that we’re starting one! On Thursday evenings, we’ll be gathering together in St. Stephen’s Church, Millfield to get to know one another and enjoy music together.

This might be of particular interest to you if you live around the city centre or if you’d just like to meet new people and sing together!

Worship Academy – Throughout 2021/22

If you are studying in Belfast and have a passion for worship, then this might be the opportunity for you! Throughout the academic year 21/22, the Worship Academy will bring together worship leaders so that you can learn and grow together and explore more about what it means to Worship. It’s our hope that every member of the Worship Academy will grow both musically and spiritually as you undertake this journey together.

Evangelism – Throughout 2021/22

Jesus left his followers with the instruction to go and make disciples of all nations. If you’re someone with a passion for passing on the faith or you’d like to grow in your boldness when it comes to sharing the good news of Jesus, we’d love you to get in touch! We’d be delighted to equip and mentor you in your evangelism journey and offer an opportunities to reach out to those around us.

Chaplaincy Chats at Ulster University, Belfast – Throughout 2021/22

We hope to be back in the Ulster University Belfast campus soon, serving a cuppa and a biscuit, and hearing about how your day is going. In the meantime, if you’re a student on the Belfast Campus of Ulster University or you live in one of the residencies in the Cathedral Quarter and you’d like to meet someone for a coffee and a catch-up, we’d be delighted if you got in touch!
