A word from our Spanish speaking representative…

Hola,

  1. Hey all… it’s just great having a bit of Latin flair around the place, but as well as working with Pen I also act as her official translator, so here’s my attempt to translate Penny’s blog…

    Hello,

My name is Penelope Perez and I am from Chile, the last piece of land in South America. Then I wonder what the other side of the world … well, I can be summarized as follows: “Obedience to God.”

I came here to Belfast a year ago to work as a volunteer for SAMS (South American Mission Society), which I installed in the Church of Ireland and Methodist Church Student Centre to work as Assistant Chaplain. My job is basically to work with young people and have a pastoral role with them. In addition, work in the Church which is connected to the center, called “The Resurrection Church” and a cafe that is also part of the whole, called “The Hub Cafe”. Having three such diverse roles in one job has been challenging and, at the same time, a great blessing, because I could serve the Lord in different areas, which has helped me, too, to meet new people who share with the God.

They offered me to stay another year. I was praying, thinking, consulting. All I confirmed that I should stay. God has blessed me greatly. I saw his hand in this whole process and I was surprised with his love in every detail. I got the chance to meet a great Christian man (Luke) who is now my “boyfriend” as we say in Chile (boyfriend). God has been so faithful! I learned that we must obey God and say “Yes” and everything else will come easily … “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you” (Matthew 6:33)

It comes another period and I am expectant of what the Lord has in store for me. They are large and difficult decisions, but as Romans 8:28 says “And we know that God causes all things for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose,” I trust that God will guide me to make the best decisions about my future.

So, Belfast, I’m ready for another year of potatoes, rain, wonderful people, unique accent, potatoes, friends, serve God, meet new people, share with students, potatoes, green sheep, Luke, obedience to God and something very important: potatoes …. among other wonderful things. As they say here, I’m sure it will be Dead on!
